The Edrington Group and InterContinental Kyiv hotel host the first ‘The Macallan Dinner' in Ukraine

 Sixty-five guests sat down at Comme Il Faut restaurant at InterContinental Kyiv hotel to a six-course banquet designed by InterContinental's new executive chef This van Roon. The menu was specifically developed to match four ages of The Macallan whisky, 12 years old, 15 years old, 18 years old and 21 years old which were presented by The Macallan Brand Ambassador, Mr. Alexey Kuchin.

This van Roon was briefed to create a banquet that would echo the six pillars of The Macallan brand which he achieved using a combination of European and Far Eastern dishes that reflected his recent experiences in China and Taiwan. Guests were welcomed into dinner by a Scottish bag piper and enjoyed sumptuous dishes presented in a uniquely 5-star way. The menu included smoked salmon on a cinnamon stick flavoured with The Macallan, Beijing Duck, cold glass noodles with shrimps and sesame seeds (a dish never seen before in Ukraine), oak-smoked, slow cooked sea bass with citrus sauce and deserts which included a coffee and whisky mousse, malt chestnut crème glace and whisky iced soufflé with cherry caramel.

Each dish was accompanied by a new whisky with the last course and the final dram being served in the InterContinental's b-hush rooftop lounge bar to the lilt of a bagpiper playing Scottish laments across evening sky.

"The evening was everything we had hoped it would be and more," said Andriy Chykerechko, The Edrington Group Marketing Director in the Eastern Europe. "We have held The Macallan dinners all over the world in some of the finest hotels and restaurants with some of the best chefs in the world and I was delighted to see that here in Ukraine we have chefs who are truly world class. We hope to develop real competition between top chefs in the country so that over time The Macallan helps to push the boundaries of fine cuisine in Ukraine."

"This was a unique event in Ukraine. I have never attended a banquet where the menu was specifically designed to match the flavours and ages of the whisky. The experience was amazing… When's the next dinner?" said Fred Finn, the world's most travelled man.

"This was an important event to develop a real understanding and appreciation of fine whisky in conjunction with fine cuisine. I learned a lot, enjoyed it a lot and could easily have drunk a lot more than I should have," said Victor Tkachuk of People First Foundation.

The Macallan
The Macallan is a brand of single malt Scotch whisky first distilled in 1824 at The Macallan Distillery near Easter Elchies House, in Moray. The Easter Elchies House has become a Spiritual Home for The Macallan and is depicted on the brand logo.
